Knotty Hide Leather at the Kentucky Derby Museum

Work by Knotty Hide Leather was featured on a painting this year at the Kentucky Derby Museum located at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky. Artist Richard Russell commissioned Knotty Hide to make a custom leather frame for a special painting of his to commemorate race horse owners.

The frame made for this project measures 20" by 20" and consists of a solid black wood frame that has been carefully covered with a rich brown leather. This leather was chosen due to its closeness in similarity to much of the tack used in horse sports. The corners are all hand braided to give a subtle sophistication to the clean look. The overall goal was a frame that highlighted the colors and overall feel of not only the painting but racing itself.

It is an honor to be able to collaborate with fellow artists and we are proud to share these wonderful events.
